Carmen B. de los Santos | Marine Coastal Ecology | Seagrass | Blue Carbon | Wetlands
I’m pleased to share that FUTUCA, a research project on the Future of Blue Carbon in Seagrass Meadows of the Andalusian Atlantic Coast, is now underway. Returning to Andalusia, my home region, to work again with these ecosystems is both meaningful and motivating.

🥳 A second paper this week from PhD candidate Márcio Martins from @ccmar.bsky.social !

🌍 The first-ever blue carbon assessment in West Africa.

🇲🇷 At Banc d’Arguin, Mauritania, we measured carbon storage & burial in seagrass meadows and used sedimentary eDNA to trace carbon sources since 1900.

🎉 My PhD student Márcio at @ccmar.bsky.social just published another paper in Int. J. Remote Sensing!

He mapped 4,500+ ha of saltmarsh in southern Portugal with 3 m satellite imagery 🌿 Huge step for monitoring these ecosystems. Excelent, Márcio!

2 OPPS in coastal wetland research:
1) PhD on Coastal Restoration in Australia (biogeochem to social and policy and spatial predictions). EOI is due in August
2) Marie Curie Fellowship on ecol modelling & biogeoch (Euro-Aus exchange). EOI is due in July

Details for each in the flyers or DM me.

Just stumbled across a little piece of history while sorting old files, my very first paper, in its original MEPS layout! Published in 2009, it was the result of my BSc thesis at Cádiz University. Time flies!

@rodneyforster.bsky.social - you were the editor on this one 🙂

🚨 NEW paper alert!
#Seagrass #functional #traits act as predictors of #biomass, albeit moderately. Study conducted across 1500 km coastline.
Main #biodiversity mechanism driving seagrass #biomass stock is through dominance.
