Back to reality after a beautiful few days of extended family vacation.

(Or at least back to sabbatical-reality, which means working from my parent’s house and visiting U Windsor!)

I’m always excited to give a talk, but I’m *particularly* excited about this one:

1) The theme of the series “Belonging in the city: repair, resistance, and re-imagination” resonates deeply with my views on urban greening

2) A non-ecology series: gotta break those silos!

3) It’s in my hometown!

Winter cycling is so freeing! Most of the time the bike paths are clear and the roads aren’t so bad - but even in rougher conditions like these I’m able to navigate the city faster and with more flexibility than with transit. Plus no shoveling out parking 🤷🏻‍♀️

J'adore les supports à vélos de la Ville de Québec. Montréal gagne généralement lorsqu'il s'agit d'infrastructures pour les vélos, mais dans ce cas, je donne le prix à Québec!

Another great @csee-sceemtgs.bsky.social in the books! My 10th, and it just keeps getting better. Special thanks to @ilafores.bsky.social and Jérémy Fraysse for organizing a great symposium with so many fabulous colleagues! #CSEE2025

Here we go! #CSEE2025

Fun to think about the ways tools/methods are used across ecology in different ways. Dr. Emily Studd uses a variety of methods to study animal behaviour in remote areas. We use many of the same (observation, temp loggers, acoustics) to study urban biodiversity & human-nature relationships! #CSEE2025

And finally, Mackenzie Guest (in collab with ECCC) will present her work on bird habitat use across residential and public green spaces. #CSEE2025
July 7, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Sarah Chamberland-Fontaine will present an ecology-social science-computer science collaboration developing a participatory video game to understand preferences for urban nature. #CSEE2025
July 7, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Emma Bacon (another @paqlab.bsky.social collab) will present results from an incredible city-wide survey of public and private-trees, highlighting the critical role of private trees in shaping urban forests. #CSEE2025
July 7, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Bella Richmond will present social-ecological work on Montreal’s green alleys, highlighting the importance of integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches to understand the benefits of urban nature. #CSEE2025
July 7, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Tomorrow, we’ve got 5 student presentations. Johanna Arnet (also of @paqlab.bsky.social) will present in-progress work in collaboration with the Ville de Montreal to understand urban heat islands in some of our densest neighborhoods. #CSEE2025
July 7, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Today, I’ll talk about our lab’s work on solutions-focused research for urban pollinator conservation (along with NGO Pollinature - check out their booth!) #CSEE2025
