You can parameterize search queries (although I had the full text in my #elasticsearch query). For example in a web app you would take the user input from a text box and pass it via the JS Language client:

There are occasions where case sensitivity is important (i.e. tag categories). There are situations where you may not want to configure synonyms. It depends on your query and data.

Thanks @mapgie.co.uk! I'm glad you enjoyed the talk. Part of the complexity of the search is how humans search for results. When you apply sensible defaults based on your data lexical search can give you good results where semantics are not a problem.

In this example I'm hosting Gemma 3 using Ollama on my laptop to try and control the demo gremlins 😅. But I'll share the other options as well.
