I feel your pain about the slop. Reference sources are so compromised and part of why I've been teaching myself to sculpt my own ref. I'm all about color, light, and traditional hand craftsmanship

Client work has kept me busy enough these are kind of old, one was an IBA cover

Man, I love all the art on me feed for #portfolioday

Hi! I'm Carly, I paint imaginative realism, currently doing work for MTG and illustrating a special edition of Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. Really grateful to have a consistently full schedule ❤️

Holy crap guys. Day started out a little rough with an unexpected plumbing emergency. But my little online store also opened today and it's already had enough sales to cover that sudden unexpected expense.

Holy blast from the past! I completely forgot about this but stumbled across it while rooting through files this morning. This is an inktober drawing from back in 2018. I don't totally hate it, I even kinda like it. Do hate the tangent of her jaw and the sword. 🤣

BOOK COVER ARTISTS

QRP with your book covers 📚

#BookCovers

While I love fantasy illustration in all forms, a passion for books and reading are the main reason I chose to pursue illustration 😅

I painted these as my big middle finger to authoritarianism. They feel more relevant by the day. I'm turning them into print sets and will be donating the proceeds. What orgs would you like to see these funds go to?

Any title suggestions for this one? The working title has been "Running the Reach" which I'm not totally enamored with. But I am enamored with the painting! Sunsets, wild west spaces, and Mercy as a coyote all make me happy.

New art to share! Now that the first few images are out in the wild I'll start posting them. Here is my cover for the special edition of Moon Called I've been working on for the awesome folks over at @grimoakpress.bsky.social It's been such a dream project 💜

Nope! Well, mostly. Technically the card art is digital over oils. Due to time constraints I painted the stars on her wings digitally. But then I painted those into the original too. You can see the differences based on this side by side I put together for the collectors.

This might be my favorite thing I’ve painted to date. I mean, glowy space angel made of stars and nebula stuff, does it get cooler than that?

It's #PortfolioDay again already?!

Hi! I'm Carly, a traditional media painter that loves to brings stories to life and painting light. My schedule is pretty dang booked at the moment but I wanna share art anyways.

Had a great time getting out to hike and paint. There's a lot I'm angry about these days, the attempted selling wild spaces that already belong to all of us being one of those things. To quote Sam, "There is some good in the world. And it's worth fighting for." Happiness is my act of rebellion.

Really looking forward to this! Always fun to paint live with other artists 😁

Space is limited so this is a ticketed event.

More than ever it feels like we're literally burning our home up. But I think that makes celebrating Earth Day even more important. Gonna be playing in my garden for my celebration.

Important studio safety reminder: Look at the color difference between the outside of this filter and the inside. That's paint that would have been in my lungs. If you airbrush wear an n95 mask for a respirator.

Today was a good painting day. I even bragged about it to my spouse. From his reaction you'd think I might be hyper critical of myself all the time or something 😅

Preliminary drawing for "I see you" one of three pieces for a triptych that I can't wait to finish and share. The paintings will be on display at an up coming group show:

The Compass Gallery is doing a fantasy show with an incredible line up of artists which I am thrilled to be a part of.

Monty was sunbathing on my drawing table. So I left it flat and sacrificed my eyeballs and neck in order to work there without making him move. From the second image, a frame for time lapse of me working, you can see it was worth the cost.

I was due for a reread anyways. All the sticky notes!

Wowza! Honored to once again be included in Infected By Art's annual volume. This year I'm floored to have three pieces accepted, one of which, "Inner Fire" was awarded bronze in the oil/acrylic/watercolor painting category.
