please don’t diminish the severity of your medical condition or disability,

and

please don’t avoid telling me that you’re in good health.

Me having cancer doesn’t take away from you having a difficult or wonderful time. I want to support and celebrate you.

I returned home in late May, with 6kg of Roquefort cheese, and a swollen, painful stomach. Prior to and during my trip, for about 5 months, I had a lot of bowel related symptoms.
I went to the GP the day I arrived home, he sent me to ED at hospital, with an urgent letter. He thought I had sepsis.

Then we went to France - specifically Avène - about 1.5 hours from Montpellier. I was there as an Avène ambassador - enjoying almost three weeks of hydrotherapy. The food was amazing, I was rested and my skin was great. We went to a cheese town! The hydro prepared me for what was to come.

I went there with my Mum. We had the best time. I learnt about the life she had when she lived in Cape Town, before she was a wife and mother. I went to her old home (now gentrified), her school, & met people who protected my parents against the racist segregation while they courted. We got wigs!

I sometimes get featured on disability service provider IG pages. I am not affiliated with these orgs. They aren't booking me to speak or consult, and I am not working with them as a support worker.
