The first time I heard it I was literally about to give feedback on it and then I heard that line and had a chuckle. Love that it gets ahead of criticism by explaining itself. Similarly one of our WIP hero models had a sticky note that read "WIP" on its back for a while 😄

In deadlock we have a temp voice suite recorded by one of our voice actors who intentionally is very goofy so it's obvious that his voice isn't a match with the WIP hero, saying stuff like "exploding thingy!" and "they're probably going to complain in the forums about my voice" -

I recently heard of a team that recorded a library of temp asset mouth sounds (i.e "whoosh!" and "pow!") and while it requires some work up front, it was an elegant solution for that team. The sound was obviously temp and out of place in the palette, but not grating and in fact kind of endearing!

Kareem I felt my blood pressure go up reading this!! In my whole career I still don't have a good solution to this, other than finding a rhythm with the dev team where they understand your temp process. Because I work on a smaller team now with less turnover, it's easier to all be on the same page

I never finished it but really really enjoyed the time I played. It struck me more of a love letter than a copycat and has a lot of its own style and taste to add as well

It's funny that in some ways I'm coming back to the way I used tech twenty years ago, it's been a good thing for me and refreshing to make my own decisions with how I use it all. Thanks to the audiophiles out there for keeping the DAP scene alive for us 🙏

Nice!! I love the lil cassette graphic with that haha. Drew got a disc burner and I feel like I'm thrust back into my teens, but in a good way. At least I don't have to edit and fix the metadata of my sketchily-downloaded-mp3s anymore lol

Anyway not sharing this to sound better-than-thou or judgmental. It's been an interesting journey for me and I thought it'd be interesting or helpful for others. If I have the financial means, it feels more important now than ever to support the arts and musicians

Got this little surfans player and loaded it up with my bandcamp collection, really like being able to consume music apart from my phone, being able to listen offline (Tidal was always buggy with this!), and having an excuse to delve into my library more thoroughly

My Tidal sub has cost $11/month and I found I'd listen to the same backlog, plus maybe one or two new albums in that time. It's mostly just convenient for checking out stuff people rec to me at this point
