I like the little green and red ones. I only ever read the left-hand side, though. Just FYI.

Great two-day event at the University of Toronto Mississauga, with Kathryn Stevens, on empires as engines of connectivity in ancient Eurasia.

Students had amazing questions on problems of epistemology and expertise in the "global" study of antiquity. Lots to ponder...

And Toronto was very nice. 🇨🇦

The latest iteration of the "global antiquity" conversation.

Lots of enthusiasm and lots of questions, both substantive (what *is* "global antiquity") and programmatic (how do we do it?).

I find all of it energizing!

By late summer, Northern California's hills turn from a brilliant gold to a more subdued golden brown. And every evening, at this time of year, there's a fleeting moment at sunset, about 5 minutes long, when they turn a pinkish red. It's very nice.

And that's that. We moved our younger son into his first-year dorm at San Diego State, did some (rather frenetic) last-minute shopping, and have now said our goodbyes.

Lots of feelings!

Can I offer an osprey or a grey coyote instead?

PS: this is all from last week. I'm an ancient historian, Ben. I live in the past.

I don't always criticize people for misusing the phrase "to beg the question," but when I do, I prefer to humiliate the "Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and of Biomedical Engineering" at the Yale School of Medicine who thinks that we should "unyoke" the sciences from the humanities.

Just in: the final publication of the late (and legendary) Michael Loewe!

This short book is notable as a single-authored comparative synthesis written by a specialist in early China—a useful complement to current work (mostly multi-authored or written from a Mediterranean perspective).

Exciting!
