It can now. The EMALS system on the USS Gerald R. Ford launched F-35Cs years ago in trials. The "can't launch" claim comes from early development data before software and power curve refinements.

Steam catapults are 1950s tech—heavy, wasteful, and limited. Electromagnetic launch systems (EMALS) are precise, efficient, and can handle both lighter drones and heavier jets. The Navy's not being "stupid," it's moving forward. Debating steam vs electric in 2025 is like arguing horses vs cars.
