I'm an Irish born writer living in the french countryside, discovering Europe by bicycle on my time off. Loving life :)
I also run an online digital agency, specialising in WordPress : https://locust.ie
Big fan of html only sites, well done...👏👏👏

As a WordPress specialist, I still do this frequently - each have genuine use cases, but the majority of people just automatically go for a CMS or other frameworks because its all they hear about.

2. Via an FTP client, rename the plugins folder to PluginsOld, refresh the site, then rename back to Plugins, refresh again, then on the WP plugins page, re-enable each plugin one-by-one until the issue reappears, et voilà, problem found (if not quite solved).

No more than 5 minutes work, job done.

Yes, this can become frustrating for some, but a couple of tips help:

1. Limiting the amount of plugins you use (by constantly reviewing the necessity of those installed you will often find you really don't need more than 8 or so for a solid professional setup)

Curious to know how and why you have arrived at this decision Nathan. Would you like to elaborate ?

Keep it simple at first, less is more. That is to say, I would use WordPress with its own TwentyTwenty Five FSE (Full Site Editing) Theme and a minimal amount of Plugins. Where will you be hosting it ? I can recommend Hostinger. If you need more info/advice, just ask Rob - happy to assist...👍

I know how that goes...🤣 I try and redesign every 6 months and am a full convert to FSE, don't really understand why people still buy site-builders now. I'd just post, then plan your rebuild...👍

Most SEO plugins will allow you to edit your robots.txt, although, as mentioned, this seems to be completely ignored..🙄 Security plugins (Solid WP, Wordfence, etc.) will have a place for listing IP's you want blocked, such as those linked to...👍

Everything will be fine....👍

Oh, I know what's going on, but it doesn't effect how WordPress works. I still run my business developing WordPress sites, I can't simply stop because someone is being an idiot - but you have your standards and that is admirable, fair play. I thought it might be a technical issue...👍

I don't understand - what's the problem? What is this ’WordPress debacle’ and how does it prevent you from achieving any of those goals? Genuinely interested...

Either way, keep up the writing... I'll be looking out for you now... 👏👏👏

Personally, I think you should stick with WordPress but also publish out to Medium, Tumblr, Blogger and any other channels you can think of. All of which can be automated from your WP base. This approach broaden your base and potential reach, what writer doesn't want more readers?

It will take more than a day Lorraine.... 🤣
But it is really worth the doing.... 👍
