Not much change since last year in GCSE results today. Regional gaps wide but unchanged, gap between state and private sector narrowed slightly after an increase last year.
Main trend is grammar schools continuing to pull ahead of both comprehensives and private schools since the pandemic.

Big regional gaps too, as you might expect.
Other major trend is in the growth of placements paying something, rather than nothing at all, but still under the minimum wage. This will need further exploration, as seems likely this practice would fall foul of existing min wage legislation.

Connections still play a huge role in getting an internship. For the first time we've been able to look at social capital in the form of social networks. Having family/friend/neighbour connections with professional occupations has a big impact, including on those from working class households.

Keir is right to point out the issues with school readiness, but what he didn't highlight was that, for children eligible for Free School Meals, the proportion achieving a good level of development is barely over *50%*. And the gap between poorer kids and their peers is on the rise...

GCSE attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers remain at long term highs. This should be a key mission for government, otherwise it's going to be a running sore on opportunities for the next generation.
