Fledgling fiction author; once and future over-analyzer of Hindi movies; cat person; anthropologist of obsessions. Can't resist a good cocktail. Apparently is preposterous.

I spent some time over the weekend making sure our stock was correctly entered in the app, so tonight I just tapped the button that showed me drinks we could make with what we had on hand.

Nintendo is sending me cruel, offensive emails. Why do they want to hurt me?

We lost my mother this week. I’m a way, I had already lost her, because she was very sick and for the last couple years her mind wasn’t what it had been. But it’s still a big milestone, and it doesn’t quite feel real yet.

Absolutely fantastic album up next: Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul. The music was compiled for a documentary I never saw, but it's a top-notch sampling of Turkish pop, rock, and hip-hop. Several of these tunes were in heavy rotation in my radio show. I haven't heard them in a while!

Next up, the soundtrack from Crooklyn. Great movie and fun album as well, a great compilation of 70s R&B and soul, plus a couple of original alt-hip-hop tracks for good measure.

Okay. Next up is more 90s Japanese music, sent to me by that listener. The album is Crimson by 相川七瀬, Nanase Aikawa. Unlike the Zard album from this morning, which was hyperpop-dance stuff, this is rock and some of it is quite good. 80s rock-pop sound, with a little 80s alt-rock sneer in the vocals

Another train ride, so another installment of the music project today: listening to ~11,000 mp3s on my computer in alphabetical order by album. Next up is "Cool City Production vol.6" by 90s Jpop superstars Zard. I might not make it through this one -- a little much at this early hour

Sunset over the harbor in Newport yesterday evening. Now, waking up for the third and final day of #newportJazzFest with @dfphil.bsky.social

I like Willow a lot and I am so pumped to see Mohini Dey live. I’ve been a fan for a long time — a friend in Kolkata sent me videos of her when she was a local teen prodigy

I’m at the other stage vibing to the soul/hip-hop groove of Maimouna Youssef (aka Mumu Fresh).

The next album is Contemporary Jazz by Branford Marsalis. Puts me in the mood for Newport Jazz Festival, which @dfphil.bsky.social and I go to in a few days. Branford played at the first #NewportJazz we ever attended, in 2009.

All Mr Yunioshi scenes in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Mickey Rooney in horrendous yellowface as "comic" relief. Hands-down winner; I will not be taking any questions.

You can cheat if you want to; I don’t care. But here’s my lock screen.

Last night’s cocktail with @dfphil.bsky.social was the Cukes & Ladders: gin, cucumber, Bitter Bianco, and dry vermouth. It was a lovely, refreshing summer cocktail. Bitter Bianco was new to us, an aperitif similar to white Cocchi Americano or blanco vermouth or Lillet.

My picture is artsier but it’s a nice cocktail. A little too tequila-forward for me, but @dfphil.bsky.social enjoys that flavor more than I do

Followed by, from the silly files, The Complete Greatest Hits of the Steve Miller Band. No fewer than 22 of Steve's best. What's your favorite Steve Miller tune? Mine might be Jet Airliner but there is a lot of gold in them thar hills.

Next up in the alphabetical parade is another musical cast recording, this time Sondheim's "Company" -- the 2018 London cast, with Rosalie Craig as Bobby. I think this was the first gender-swapped production, but I don't know a ton about musicals so I could easily be wrong.

And here we are: The cast recording of Come From Away.

The next album is Come Closer, by Turkish pop start Tarkan. I love Tarkan, but this one is in English. I much prefer Tarkan in Turkish, which is a fantastic cool-sounding language (all that great agglutination and vowel harmony!), and protects me from the vapid lyrics.

After that, classical Spanish guitarist Daniel Estrem. The album is Colors of Spain. This stuff is pretty but to tell the truth I find it a little boring. Good background music, though.
