Yesterday I spent the afternoon diving into the world of Sir Edward Watkin with Anna Hartley of Heritage Lincolnshire & the local Watkin Group! Watkin’s impact on our local area is truly fascinating.

Also, honoured to meet Geoff Scargill, Chairman of The Watkin Society who shared his expertise. 🚂

Legend has it Immingham helped build North Killingholme's St Denys Church, but Killingholme didn't hold up their end of the deal to help with the tower of St Andrew's Church, Immingham.
A special grotesque was added to Immingham's tower & still pulls a cheeky moonie to Killingholme to this day…🍑😂

An article about a woman labelled 'an old prostitute named Hill' sent me down a rabbit hole! Publicly shamed and denied a full funeral,
160 years later, she was still remembered only by the title the press gave her.
I needed to know her name!
Found it!

I've had an amazing time leading heritage walks in Grimsby and Cleethorpes over the past two weekends as part of the Love Your Town events! ❤️

Save the date: I'll be leading another free walk on March 11th for Great Grimsby Day, starting at Town Hall at 10am. Hope to see you there! 😃

‘It rains. To say that it pours is even a mild & inadequate description of the present deluge. The sky is like a leaky leaden cistern. There is one cloud visible and that covers the sky from pole to pole.’

A rather dramatic (though accurate! 😂) journalist, Cleethorpes, 1877.

John Empringham's legacy is etched into the tower of Grimsby Minster, where an inscription reads, ‘Pra for y saulle of Jhon Hemprynga’. Marking his contribution to the cost of the tower's construction.

The annual fee (paid to the Abbot of Wellow) for the land was a pound of ground pepper. The land was gifted to the townspeople to partake in sporting activities such as cock-fighting & archery. It was then known as 'The Peppercorn' and was roughly where Peppercorn Walk is today..
