I'm back and forth on the score a lot, but I feel pretty strongly about it all the same.

4/5

Genuinely when I came out of the movie the first time I thought it was pretty good and the more it's sat on me and I've rewatched it the more I like it. Even just set design and practical effects on the costumes do so much to make it feel like I'm watching something someone really wanted to make.

That heroes aren't just there to look cool and do sick action scenes, but also to inspire you and make you see the power of hope. This is an insanely genuine movie with a very in your face message that compassion and hope are what make us strong and that's punk rock as fuck right now dog.

Because their movies for a while weren't really about anything. Deadpool & Wolverine and Thunderbolts are the only ones I'd say have had any message really appealing to general audiences right now and a movie like Superman is desperately needed because people have to be reminded of something...

It's a really beautiful message that ties incredibly well into the character and that combined with the ultimate resolution with the conflict of Boravia is what's needed from superhero movies right now I feel. Marvel is currently in a weird space in terms of cultural cache and part of it is...

In that you get a story that is about what the human spirit can overcome in spite of where you come from and who you're born to. The Kents at first seem like they're bit roles, but come back in a massive way to reinforce what makes Clark Kent into Superman and vice versa.

Is just falling into psychotic side quests. Outside of the casting, the movie's writing and set pieces are quite strong too. The story is told about Superman using the back drop of a conflict between two nations that very closely resembles the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and Lex's pursuit of Superman.

I also appreciate how thoroughly involved Lois and Jimmy are in the movie. They are such key parts of Clark's life and it feels like the Snyder movies didn't do a great job at ever portraying that. I especially love that they actually got someone from Florida to portray Jimmy, the man whose life...

Feels like actors I saw in the 2010s but never thought much of coming back in a big way. Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner fucking rocks and I love how they portrayed him. He's a huge doofus, but he's still a Green Lantern for a reason. This version of Hawkgirl is so tight too.

In my last 15 years of being kind of a comic book fan, but I wish I had learned about him sooner. He's pretty awesome. Edi Gathegi has so much presence as Terrific and comes off as slick and cool while being confident without ever seeming like he's actually arrogant. A lot of this movie's cast...

Regardless there's some very good scenes in the first act and it's still a lot of fun following the characters. As soon as Mr. Terrific becomes a major player it's all aces from there though. I actually didn't know much about Terrific prior to the movie, I somehow missed this character...

Not that I think the movie necessarily needs a whole origin story, but damn I just feel like there had to be a better way to get us to the second act where the movie really starts to settle down and become laser focused on what it wants to be about and it's just splendid from that point on.
