This has me thinking again about how we can make neighborhood-based organizing accessible/appealing to people w/ housing instability.

I had to move soooooo many times in my first couple of years in NYC (many cheap sublets before I could afford a lease). Hard to lay down any roots that way!
"An ideal," DRUM's Ahmed said, "would be if we could develop neighborhood-based organizing committees" out of the campaign's neighborhood canvassing operations. "They could play this role of staying well-connected to the community, connected to the administration, and sort of being able to go in both directions." But Ahmed emphasized that this was still an ideal, while pointing out the wide discrepancy between electoral campaigns and ongoing organizing efforts. "It's one thing to knock on doors to mobilize people," he said. "It's another thing to actually know people behind those doors and know who they listen to or who they influence."

ICYMI, here's what Bed-Stuy's straight-shooting Council Member @chiosse.bsky.social had to say about Stefani Zinerman back in June:

We need affordable housing in Bed-Stuy, and we cannot afford our elected officials to protest against it. Let’s vote for the leaders we deserve in June 2026." Post from Chi Ossé's Instagram account on July 11, 2025: "Council Member Chi Ossé released the following statement regarding his State Assembly Member, Stefani Zinerman: "Between 2010 and 2020, 22,000 Black residents were displaced from Bed-Stuy. To Assembly Member Zinerman, that number is not nearly large enough. Her pro-landlord lobby, pro-homelessness, pro-displacement agenda has been allowed to ravage our neighborhoods for too long. Now, amid a housing shortage battering our historic community, she comes out against a 100% affordable housing development. "In accordance with the wishes of the landlords she works for, Assembly Member Zinerman is exercising the power of her office to block housing that would both be a lifeline for its low- and moderate-income residents, and also apply downward pressure on housing prices across the board by adding to the housing stock. As wealthier new arrivals come to Bed-Stuy, Zinerman prefers that they bid up the rents on our limited existing units and displace legacy residents, all so the big landlord class can cash out at the expense of Black Brooklyn. "She works for the big landlord lobby, which salivates at each housing development blocked because the shortage drives up rents. We need an Assembly Member who works for us."

The dinosaur bodega in the Grand Army Plaza subway stop got a Halloween edit 😍🦇👻🦖

Really striking moment at tonight's big Zohran rally:

Kathy Hochul, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Carl Heastie came onstage to tepid applause. Eventually, the crowd started a spontaneous "Tax the Rich!" chant, drowning Hochul out completely.

"I can hear you," she replied, sounding uncomfortable.
