You did such a great job on your talk, I never would’ve guessed you were ill if you hadn’t said so 😂 I’ve been following you on Twitter for a while and had no idea you’d be there! Hope you’re recovering well 🙏

Nice! 🥳

to genuinely forgive, you must first withhold forgiveness. Only from that place can true forgiveness take shape, after the harm has stopped. Forgiving someone who is still abusing, or who sees no need for forgiveness, is just thinly veiled permission for the abuse to continue

To understand forgiveness I believe it’s essential to understand when not to forgive. Ive seen too many people grant forgiveness on behalf of someone else. it’s not yours to give or withhold. Ive also seen people forgive leaders they like, while refusing even a shred of grace for those they dislike

This is spot on, and exactly the kind of nuance that often goes unspoken. Forgiveness is too often used dishonestly, as a way to selectively excuse certain failures while condemning others.

I definetly feel that pain aswell. Still waiting for better file directory apps built for AI to help us deal with those issues.

It would probably be like 3 lines of code assuming that they already have tools to transform images which they must have, and would be easy to add if they dont.
May 25, 2025 at 5:55 PM
If the format is that hard for them to work with interally then literally all they need to do is just auto convert it to something Premier likes better when you insert the image.
May 25, 2025 at 5:55 PM
For the record I dont even think it would be very hard for them to do this. In fact, if you can convince Adobe to hire me I'm sure I could have this task done in 3 days. I have no clue what could possibly be complicated with allowing webp.
May 25, 2025 at 5:54 PM
The right direction being pushing for software like Premier to accept basic image formats. Which frankly they should have done years ago and it's totally ridiculous that they dont
May 25, 2025 at 5:48 PM
I just feel that people are a bit spoiled and not seeing the invisible work that they benefit from. They only see the issues that arrise, which is to be expected, but we can do a better job telling those people to direct their frustration in the right direction.
May 25, 2025 at 5:48 PM
The expectations users have - to load tons of high resolution images through a web client near instantly, is a very high bar. I dont think people appreciate how fast the web is at doing this and all the work we had to do to meet that user expectation.
May 25, 2025 at 5:47 PM
I totally empatise with that point I just wish that this frustration could be more productivley directed towards the failure of those apps to accept what is now a standard image format. From the perspective of the web theres just no way to reasonably expect us to use something like jpg or pngs.
May 25, 2025 at 5:47 PM
In which case the only reason they havent done the same with WebP is because unlike HEIF WebP actually does work most places.
May 25, 2025 at 5:21 PM
And thats back to my point that HEIF is so poorly supported that Apple doesnt trust it to be usefull anywhere other than their spesific apps and will blindly force a conversion to a lesser format.
May 25, 2025 at 5:21 PM
It's possible that apple devices always convert away from HEIF whenever you export them out of a given app that could be what you have seen, but thats a diffirent thing.
May 25, 2025 at 5:21 PM
When I said that I don't belive thats possible I was being too modest. The fact is I know that's not possible. Safari would have to be manipulating the files going to a servers endpoints on behalf of the client which would be completley insane and would make everyone instantly hate Safari.
May 25, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Which is kind of my point. Point being that webp vs HEIF isnt the issue, the issue is that some software is stuck in 1985. Be mad at the software not the file format.
May 25, 2025 at 5:06 PM
because if thats the case then that means that apple is basically saying that HEIF is such a poorly supported file format that they wont even let you download it becuase they know that you cant possibly use it anywhere.
May 25, 2025 at 5:06 PM
What is possible though is if it works the other way around - not when you upload but that it converts away from HEIF when you download. Thats possible but thats a very funny fact -
May 25, 2025 at 5:06 PM
I am not clear on what you are claiming here. Are you saying that if I upload an HEIF to a website that does not support it using safari then safari will detect that and convert it? Because I dont think thats possible.
May 25, 2025 at 5:06 PM
Webp is very well supported and as a web dev that works with images using less suported formats comes with much greater headaces and edge cases.
