A group of Chicago area public library workers aiming to build and support community beyond the walls of our organizations.
We were in Back of the Yards today, participating in a whistlemania event.

400 whistles were packed for distribution to various Chicagoland communities.

Have you had a chance to connect with others to help out our neighbors?

In an effort to get tamaleros in La Villita home as early in the day as possible, to avoid I.C.E. and CBP, we bought one out. We bought out three yesterday.

All tamales are being distributed to families in need.

We've begun putting together 34 warming kits for the unhoused.

When we're done, they'll have socks, hand warmers, gloves, and cash.

Please reach out if you'd like to contribute!

Another librarian-led donation, from a Park Ridge Public Library staff member, made to the Pilsen Food Pantry's aluminum can collection.

Every bit counts in helping alleviate food insecurity in the Chicago area!

We dropped off a little over 1100 crushed cans this afternoon at the Pilsen Food Pantry.

Cans were collected, between February and July, from library workers at Westmont, Waukegan, and Roselle Public libraries.

We're still collecting, so reach out to get information on how you can contribute!

6x/year (Jan, Mar, May, July, Sep, Nov), we pool together donations and give to 8 Chicago-area organizations. Here's a look at 3 (see photo). Scroll for a list of all 8.

Chicago-area library workers who want to contribute, no matter the amount, should reach out. Happy to confirm identity via email.

One librarian's contribution to @lettercarriers.bsky.social's #StampOutHunger food drive.

We hope to see more from other library workers!

We stopped by the Berwyn Public Library (2701 South Harlem Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402) to leave some goodies in the Little Free Food Pantry.

Does your Chicago-area library have a food pantry? Have you made a contribution? Let us know!

We've been collecting aluminum cans (soda, beer, sparkling water, etc.) for almost 3 months, to donate to the Pilsen Food Pantry (www.pilsenfoodpantry.com/recycle) and are excited to share that we've just passed 500 cans! 🎉

The first 272 took two months, while the remaining came in throughout April

I spy with my little eye, a display on the US Postal Service at Round Lake Area Public Library!

Public services deserve our protection from privatization, so we love to see support from one public service to another. ♥️💌📬

Has your library done a display in support of democracy? Let us know!
