I'm not sure I see the need for an American Liberal party. Would this not just serve as a spoiler for the Democrats?

I think the Jones act is relevant because it undeniably raises the price on goods shipped between US ports. You can make a national security argument if you want, and that is a discussion we can have, but I think it's effect is pretty obvious here.
