Taking this occasion of Sagan’s 90th birthday to reflect on the awesome and somewhat comforting reality that “the earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.”
There’s a lot of stuff out there in the universe… Maybe some of it is intelligent?

It’s nice when your work makes headlines.

Well, the good headlines anyway.

The article describes a convocation speech given by Mona Nemer, Canada’s chief science advisor, on how science can be a cornerstone for peace and diplomacy. The address was given on June 12 to the University of Western Ontario Science Faculty graduating class of 2024 and was very well received. A video of the speech can be found on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/event/4271781 Mona Nemer’s remarks begin at about one hour and twenty minutes in to the video.

Well I guess this one’s going to the top of my reading list.
