Btw fish and chips takeaways in parts of New Zealand offer fried mutton-bird (sea gull). I think we are probably the exception in the long view of human history

Such small birds were also popular in rural Britain until sometime in the mid-20th century. Rook pie for example was a popular seasonal dish. It was a treat!
