Game designer and pot stirrer.
On this planet to make it a little weirder.

Am I the only one that loves geeking out whenever a board game collection shows up in movies/TV? It's like an extra little glimpse into their world.
Do y'all have a favorite?

I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more 10th anniversary editions of board games soon considering the big hobby boom took off around then

Wrapping up my first GAMA with lots to think about (and some promising follow-ups). Great con for anyone in the board game industry. Really interesting conversations and opportunities (and lots of new friends) from the cross section of designers, publishers and retailers.

Some great design feedback and interesting insights here. Seems there's more thematic innovation than mechanics, which makes sense. Makes me wonder if there's any great mechanic breakthroughs still to be discovered.
What is the most unique, disruptive mechanic you've seen in recent board games? 🎲✂️
I'm done judging for the first round of @cardboardedison.bsky.social. I did 35. Observations & advice follow:

There were more entrees than ever this year— 339. Last year there were 250. That’s great for the hobby! But it's also harder to stand out than ever. So how do you succeed?

What is the most unique deck builder out there?
I think Abandon All Artichokes deserves credit for the most accessible/minimalist approach. El Dorado, Clank and Tyrants of the Underdark offer neat interactions with a board, but none seem so unique and unto themselves.
Boardgames, board games.

@senfoonglim.bsky.social doc on frequent playtest feedback (a master-class doc IMO) is generating some spicy takes on reddit for calling innovation and modularity a "trap" in board game design. I side with Sen, but curious if y'all have any thoughts? ✂️🎲

Hey board game design 🎲✂️
Is there a name for the new style of game that blends deck building, worker placement and area control (ex. Ruins of Arnak, Dune Imperium)? Feels like there's enough games in this template it could be a genre. Maybe something like a point salad game (a mech medley?)

Here's to Prospero Hall, minds behind some of the cleverest games out there.
I love Godzilla: Tokyo Clash, such great gameplay where you give up cards when you take damage. Really makes you feel like an unstoppable Kaiju until you realized you just lost your massive attack card.
