They definitely just underwent longitudinal binary fission and regenerated the missing half like sea anemones within a few days so maintained that general size most of their lives

Brief Squid (Lolliguncula brevis) are pretty much the only ones that can be kept successfully, they need perfect water quality (huge tank plus huge sump or live feed system connected to a brackish waterway). Any nitrate/ammonia fluctuation will kill them. Penaeid shrimp are the only safe tank mates
