My Edglord Controversial opinion is that, putting Health Ledgers phenomenal performance in dark Knight aside, Rises is actually the best of the Nolan trilogy

Recommend Man Bites Dog for this list. it is a mockumentry but its more FF like than What We Do In The Shadows 😝 and to me anyway it seems like an important part of the evolution of the genre.

Also wondering if you mentioned the films seemingly loose connection the welsh myth Bloeuwedd and I missed it? Welsh mythology is insanely dark. Recommend the tale of Branwen and Efnisien. Or for YA lovers The snow spider books were my introduction to the myths as a wee boy

Maybe because I knew going in it was an environmental horror but I clocked Cadis deal very early on (tablecloth scene). can definitely see how that would change how you watch the film. Thanks for introducing me to yet another great movie that would never have otherwise crossed my radar!

Its not really about the sex though is it? Its more about the fragility male ego, jealousy and power dynamics, the sex/infidelity/orgy etc is just a vehicle to explore those things. Its no accident that Cruise never actually has sex just moves from scenario to scenario confused scared and impotent

I remember my brother brought me the dvd for Christmas and I got him Zombie Strippers (it was an awkward family get together for sure). I have to admit I always just assumed it was going to be bad and never watched it until this wee. Turns out I'd been missing out bi time!

I think I enjoyed it more than most. Better pacing and without the need to constantly smack you round the head with its "subtext" could have been a stupid but fun movie
