I’m interested to see how the trend of leaning into these stories at the holidays corresponds with the 2008 crash, when 2 things started to become apparent: 1. The middle class was not safe 2. The patterns of life that boomers enjoyed in terms of solid jobs, affordable housing, and early marriage🧵

They’re fairy tales. Fairy tales as a genre always had a strong element of all needs magically being met in them, which makes sense given that some of them are quite old and for much of human history being poor was literally fatal. It certainly is now.
