What does “accountability“ mean? I feel like they never spell it out because the reality of throwing people in jail for being poor/sick/addicted is grotesque and they have no other ideas.

It's incredibly dumb to suggest a temporary/appointed executive should make a sweeping change like this right before a permanent/elected executive is about to take over. Especially over an issue that was brought up legislatively and went nowhere.

The lesson for the left here is that electing a president who will abolish ice and stop sales of arms to Israel will still need pressure to do the right thing elsewhere. Just because they’re good on those issues doesn’t mean they'll be good immigration more broadly (or trans rights, or the courts)

An ambitious dem who takes a strong stance against ICE and the genocide in Gaza will only grow more popular among the base in the coming years. Easy, obvious win for local electeds who want a national profile.

It reminds me of the Iraq war where support of the war among establishment dems left a gap for Obama to come in and take over the party. Easy to forget that now that Obama is mainstream but in 04 he was a state rep who could give a good speec.

They took big swings. Not all of them worked and that one episode was super racist. But it’s hard not to respect the ambition.

In theory, flipping a voter is worth 2x because it’s taking a voter away from your opponent. In reality, an enthusiastic voter will encourage their friends/family to turnout as well.

I’ve heard less argument about the word “deescalate”, but I feel the need to say: deescalate does not mean capitulate or surrender and some people are treating it like it does.
If someone is not an “enemy”, we don’t just automatically excuse their worst behavior or support their political goals.

It hurts when people say the DNC cheated when it picked Hillary or Biden. Both of them got a huge percentage of the black vote which is how they won their primaries.
Suggesting that the primaries were invalid has the same racist overtones that “millions of illegals voted” does on the right.
