The moon over York Harbor, Maine, last night. Not sure if that's a waxing gibbous or waning gibbous. Anyhow, paging Caspar David Friedrich.

Just finished Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" - for the second time. Last read it in high school, 60+/- years ago. I barely remembered a thing. So it was almost like reading it for the first time.
Gregory Peck, in the film version, was/is Atticus Finch, at least for me.

I'm waiting, too. But I'm not holding my breath.

Spinning: Haydn, 99-104, Beecham/RPO, great recordings from the late '50s - "Big Band" Haydn if you will, that still sound great today - very "unHIP", just the way I like my "classical"/baroque music played, thank you very much. Only caveat, very few of the repeats are taken, except in the minuets.

Here in NYC - lovely day for a subway ride.

Spinning, World Premiere recording, 1960, of selected works of Lili Boulanger (1893-1918), dead of TB at just 24.
Got at eBay. For once the seller didn't lie: the outer, inner sleeves, enclosed notes/texts, and most importantly the LP, are all MINT! An original pressing, too, original label. Nice.

Just arrived in the mail, here in NY, from Sweden, Emilie Waldken's "Genom Natten" - "Through the Night" - trad Swedish and newly composed folk tunes. Great stuff. I've become a great fan of this folk music.
As I'm a CD & LP person, glad Waldken finally made a CD. Thanks! 🙏👏

Streamed "An Officer And A Gentleman" last night - Richard Gere, Debra Winger, Louis Gossett Jr. It's one of those films that had fallen through the cracks, for me, for years. (My wife has watched it many times.) Very much surprised - critically acclaimed all 'round. I can see why. Great film.

Finally made it to the last episode - the grand finale - of HBO's "Six Feet Under" - granted, 20 years after the fact. All I can say is WOW!
Not that my opinion matters much, but I would rate it one of the best TV/Cable series of all time!

Spinning, the Emerson Quartet playing DSCH quartets, specifically his last two, nos 14 & 15. Grim, sombre stuff - about how I'm often feeling these days.
Nice having all the DSCH quartets in one handy, dandy little box, with paper sleeves, none of those f*cking jewel boxes, thank you very much.

Spinning for lunch, Classic Railroad Songs - a compilation from Smithsonian Folkways. Maybe not everyone's cuppa tea, (Hey, I'm a train guy!) but this is certainly a who's who of folk / blues singers / groups from the 1930s to 1960s.

I'll need to check that one out. I was listening to this Emilia Amper CD earlier:

Yeah, as Americans, we'll just have to sit this out. There's the midterms in '26, and there's a damned good chance the Dems will take back The House, maybe even The Senate. Also, we can hope that nature does her work. I doubt if The Orange Turd is in the best of health. This too shall pass...

Not part of my Met subscription. So I just bought myself a separate ticket for Tristan & Isolde, in the coming '25-'26 season. I actually was able to get my regular subscription seat: Balcony, Row A, on an aisle. How cool is that.
Looking forward to seeing Lise Davidsen as the new Isolde.

At the Music Box, saw Sarah Snook (Shiv of Succession fame) in the consistently Sold-Out tour-de-force one woman show of Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Wonderfully well done mixed media sort of thing, with Snook interacting with numerous videos of herself. Brava! Catch it if you can.

Spinning today: Tchaikovsky 4-5-6, Klemperer. Hadn't listened to these for years. Didn't like Klemp here. But he's grown on me. T6, particularly, is monumentally harrowing.
Still have the original vinyl - on Angel here in the US - nice 3LP box, with the red naugahyde spine indicating stereo. HA!
