Oh yeah this is 100% vampire haunting Adeline fanfiction (SHES A MANIPULATOR U GUISE AND HE HUNTS DOWN VAMPIRE HUMAN TRAFFICKERS ZOMG). Also why TF is Scarlett's sister CARTOONISHLY evil (context: flashback, Scarlett was raped, and this is her sister's reaction)

Y'all enemies to lovers in the modern age doesn't work and I will stand by this. They're just like... Mildly annoying towards each other

Me: oh boy a decent romance book! There's been consent and communication and relationship building! Nothing can kill my mood

Bottom #5- whatever the HELL this was from Amazon. Ho ho ho/10
January 9, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Bottom #4- Vampire's Bargain. World building was bad and the names?? Kitana Nightshade? Maxamillian Starclaw?? Nah fam. Was promised a story of revenge and I just got Vampire Fascism lol
January 9, 2025 at 5:39 PM
Bottom #3- The Scarecrow's Queen. I buddy read this with someone and never want to see the words "overstuffed p3nis" again. Straw/10 I was itchy the whole time
January 9, 2025 at 5:36 PM
Bottom #2- Nocturne. Oh boy this book felt like a fever dream but bad. I was excited to give it a read but it was like, the author TRIED to write lush prose and it only came through as "please think I'm good at this". It was never fleshed out but tried to be deep. Maybe it's just not for me tho

Bottom 5 of 2024 oh boy here we go (authors and fans look away)-
Bottom #1: Phantom by Greer Rivers. Mmm sexual assault, horrible neurodiversity rep, and absolutely insulting my cajun roots. This deserves its own solo rant if I can gather the courage.

Honorable top mentions- Peaches and Honey by R Raeta; The Viridian Priestess by Katrina Calandra, and all of SE Wendel's books. Good, and I loved them, and I want copies, but I didn't stop and sit to ponder life after them (which isn't always the point of reading!). Still loved em.
January 9, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Top #5- The Monk and Robot Duo by Becky Chambers. This book has me legitimately thinking about my purpose, what life means, and where I get joy. It's beautifully written and deep, but so simple. I sat in my car and cried when I was done with both of these.
January 9, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Top #4- Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. If you can get the full cast audiobooks, do it. This series is AMAZING, short, and I love Murderbot your honor. What murdah??? He's just a boy who wants to watch his soap operas!!
January 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Top #3- Dark Archives by Megan Rosenblum. HEAVENS TWO NONFICTION BOOKS? WHO IS SHE?? Educated qween. Never thought a book about books (bound in human skin) would have me in tears but here we are.
January 9, 2025 at 5:17 PM
Top #2: Reign and Ruin by JD Evans. This is my STANDARD for romantasy. The world building, the romance, the magic system and the CHARACTERS?? The relationship built on MUTUAL RESPECT AND ADMIRATION??? Mwah mwah mwah.

Top 5 and Bottom 5 books for 2024 in no particular order: a thread by me, Caps.
Top #1: Making a Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr. This book LITERALLY changed by brain chemistry. Necessary for anyone currently/formerly/interested in Christianity.
