Last Day - today saw the end of regular recording for this spring. There were few new migrants present, only Hoopoe (8) & Golden Oriole (15), showed an increase.
Full details of the birds we saw & ringed this year are now on Trektellen: https://www.trektellen.org/search?q=Tenaro

A day of strong WNW winds made for challenging birding, a few birds arrived but overall numbers were down. Alongside the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater the highlights included a Nightjar at Swallow Hollow & the first Black-headed Bunting of the year singing at Koureli @AntikythiraBird

Blue-cheeked Bee-eater this morning, on wires above Porto Kagio.
Presumably a product of the south-easterly winds two days ago
March 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM
The view across Porto Kagio bay yesterday afternoon, the sky heavy with Saharan dust.
The winds have changed overnight, with fresh North-westerly clearing away yesterday’s murk.
The highlight so far today: a Common Snipe flushed near the lighthouse, the first record for Tenaro

It’s been a slow few days for migration, with limited new arrivals due to strong NE winds that have reached gale force at times. The most notable feature has been large arrivals of Bee-eaters with 201 yesterday & at least 359 today, many roosting on the headland overnight.
March 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM
A Trumpeter Finch has been seen near the lighthouse this morning. It initially flew south but then returned north, so is likely to still be present. Finding it again though may be a challenge !!
Presumably a product of the south-easterly winds early in the week @AntikythiraBird

Another great day for visible migration, this time Harriers provided the main interest: 12 Marsh, 4 Pallid, 2 Montagu’s, 3 Pallid/Montagu's.
Also of note were 11 Quail including one that flew in to the wall of the lighthouse & landed by two of the birding team, released unharmed
March 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM
A few raptors coming in off the sea at the lighthouse this morning: Pallid and Marsh Harriers as well as the first Honey-buzzard of the year. Also 9 Quail, all seen arriving in the space of 10 minutes
March 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM
Another great day’s birding.
Sadly the Desert Warbler was not relocated however this was made up for by an excellent passage of Bee-eaters (405- a new record count for the headland) and Turtle Dove (420 - the best day count since 2006). Full details here:...
March 21, 2025 at 6:41 AM
Negative news on the Desert Warbler today. If it stayed the strong northeasterly winds last night /this morning will likely have caused it to relocate.
Few grounded migrants today but visible passage of Bee-eaters, Turtle Dove, Flava’s & Swallows

MEGA ALERT
Desert Warbler (S.deserti) at Cape Tainaro / Tenaro this morning- showing well on path to the lighthouse - a 1st for Greece

Collared Flycatcher spectacular !!
A fantastic afternoon’s birding with an amazing after lunch arrival of 196 Collared Flycatcher, 30 Pied Flys, 11 Spotted Flys, 137 Tree Pipit, 59 Subalpine Warbler, 20 Hoopoe and 33 Whinchat @AntikythiraBird
March 21, 2025 at 6:46 AM
Sadly no sign of the Pallas’s Leaf Warbler today.
The day started slowly but from early afternoon it was clear that new birds were arriving; Collared Flycatchers were the dominant species & a total of 72 were counted. Also 2 Semi-collared Flycatchers were seen at Porto Kagio
March 21, 2025 at 6:46 AM
Pallas’s Leaf Warbler - some photos of yesterday’s bird at Paliros (Cape Tenaro); we believe this is just the 5th Greek record.
Photos chosen to show the key identification features @AntikythiraBird @BirdGuides

Pallas’s Leaf Warbler!!
Giving great views this lunchtime as it feeds in the oak tree on the east side of Paliros @AntikythiraBird @BirdGuides @TarsigerTeam
March 21, 2025 at 6:47 AM
Looks like being another slow day for migration, numbers of grounded migrants even poorer than yesterday.
The highlight so far a Stone-curlew on the beach by the mosaics.
March 21, 2025 at 6:47 AM
A relatively slow day although a good variety of species were seen.
A small number of raptors went through in the morning and there was an apparent arrival of Northern Wheatears and Woodchat Shrikes in the afternoon.
Today’s counts are now viewable here:...

The Little Bunting is still present at Mianes this morning - its fourth day.
Poor numbers of small migrants however a few raptors are coming in, including a Pallid Harrier and the first Hobby of the year
March 21, 2025 at 6:47 AM
Some photos of the Little Bunting at Mianes this evening
March 21, 2025 at 6:47 AM
The Little Bunting is still present at Mianes this evening, giving great views along the central track
March 21, 2025 at 6:52 AM
A White Stork, sat on a pole near Kokinoghia this morning, is only the fourth spring record for the headland
March 21, 2025 at 6:52 AM
The Little Bunting was still present at Mianes this morning.
Also of note: at least 16 Hoopoes seen by mid-morning and seemingly more still arriving.
March 21, 2025 at 6:52 AM
Sadly there’s been no further sign of yesterday’s Hooded Wheatear (pics here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S167431976) however compensation has come in the form of 2 Little Buntings. One found last night in the graveyard above Porto Kagio, the other today at Mianes @BirdGuides...
March 21, 2025 at 6:52 AM
* MEGA ALERT *
A Hooded Wheatear has been found near the Aghia Triadha Chapel by Giota Bourneli this morning.
The first of Cape Tenaro team arrive later this afternoon so hopefully it will hang around until then; more news and photos later if so @AntikythiraBird
