Christ Almighty

I think that was the darkest book I've read. Excellently written. Every time I thought it couldn't get darker it did. I'm not sure I'm the better for it.

Had a fantastic time with this book. It's been the first book in a while where I opened and didn't want to stop reading and I think my soul has been watered and fed from that for a few days.

This book was not for me. There is a lot of grimness at the start. Characters were underdeveloped. I liked the world. The 3 gods, 3 peoples, each with a different form of magic
In particular the prophecies were very cool. On the romance side of things could really take it or leave it.

I need someone else to look at the Lovecraftian madness that is the old UK's crochet hook size chart.

The numbers get smaller as the size gets bigger. The numbers not correlated to the measurement of the hook. 2 appears twice.

I loved the windows into all the families lives. You feel you know the neighbourhood by the end.Detective Kaga is the connecting thread. Mini mysteries in each short story are fun to solve or be surprised by. The other characters going "wow your so clever" does get a bit grating.

Loved this book. Had a big grin on my face the whole time. There are heartbreaking moments. There are so many funny moments. The characters are wonderful. I really liked the main character. As one review put it "If his name wasn't Moist he would have done numbers on Tumblr"

After several months, I have finally got a bodice block that fits! In comparison, here is the block for my "size".

Now to make the skirt block...

Just wanted to show the cool sculptures carved yesterday on this road. Trees had to be cut down a while back (they were planted to close to the wall and were getting dangerous apparently).

Felt slow. Not packed with twists it focuses more on the individuals involved and their points of view. All of the characters felt flawed in very human ways. The twist with Helgi the detective and his girlfriend I thought was well done and the ending is shocking. I am glad I stuck with it.

This book was not for me.The twists were grand but the interjecting podcast summed up what I had just read & in the last line gave away the next twist. I didn't vibe w/ how some of the characters were written. I think The God of the Woods hits on similar themes and I enjoyed it a lot more

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book. Flew through the last 3rd. This book starts to look at systemic issues with the justice system but it felt stunted?
There are some powerful moments. Pip checking in with another character & was impressed with the emotional descriptions of Pip

Warm & informative. Described new-to-me ways of analysing stories. Lil repetitive.
I think I really needed to listen to this style of book when I did. Lots of warm humour and fond examples, a love for humanity and comedy. Has a strong argument in it why edgy comedy is full of shit.

There's a lot to say about the "What high-end tourists get up to in Ireland" piece in the Irish Times. But I don't think I can read past this. It's too ridiculous

My first Rooney novel and I get it now. Really enjoyed it, although had a Marge Simpson esq concerned noise in my head when reading Marianne's Povs. I'm less convinced now that Trinity College is a real place. Felt like a modern era Jane Austen novel in a way. 💙📚

Sold as a feminist western and I think it hit the mark. The stakes are high and I was routing for Ida to find a way to learn from a master midwife. Often it's other characters that have to take action for Ida not Ida herself. Which is maybe ironic in a story about self-agency. 💙📚

I was watching Tom Nicholas's video on the house of Lords. And apparently the format living expert of the house of Lords is "Lord Louth"

You can feel it's a classic while reading it. Enjoyed the second half more. Found it difficult to get into in the beginning. Lovely themes. The magic system is cool. Archipelagos are cool. The lack of women is really weird. The author explains in the foreword which was interesting. 💙📚

The art is stunning.I ❤️ how day to day is in b&w but you get pops of colour in the kid's drawing or when in Abbey's imagination.Feels claustrophobic, listless, apathetic to out of control. The ending is tragic and hits like an out of the blue, brick wall. I liked it more before the end

I prefer informative writing with a storytelling style. This is a very numbers, dates and names book. Could have done with less repetition & more photos and illustrations.Packed with info. Down to individual custom declarations on 🐺 pelts.Good book if 🐺s and Ireland take your interest.💙📚

Book thread 2025
Starting off with a bang. Fascinating book, tough to listen to. I thought I knew how bad nuclear war would be and yet it is somehow so much worse. It does make me want to learn about Nuclear disarmament. Slightly repetitive. Good for emphasis but sometimes a bit much. I learnt a lot

So I decided I'd take a scroll to have a look. I picked the fashion theme. I was not expecting it to have unspeakable horrors. But really that's on me

Obsessed with this review on a book about Nuclear war, that uses it to justify Creationism
