Video Games, Board Games and TTRPG Geek. I practice 居合道(Iaido) and 茶の湯(Chanoyu). I try to follow the principles of 文武両道(Bunburyodo).
It was made with “Shadow ink”( forgot the Japanese name for it). By that, I mean that at first, the calligraphy is “invisible”. You need to apply another layer of ink over the calligraphy (the big gray brushstrokes) the two inks then make a kind of chemical reaction and then the calligraphy appears.
