Forensic visualization artist - general 3D/VFX enthusiast. This isn't what I thought I'd be doing with my film degree.
Heck yeah, excited to see it!

That's the search function. Really useful when I can't remember what menu baking keyframes is buried in the submenus. Sometimes I'll even search for stuff I'm not sure is even possible and find neat new functions and features.

f3 would probably make the list for me!

These are looking awesome!

That's super cool! I love the way you record those.

Yes and yes lol. Though Sytheyes was recently bought by Boris FX and from what I've seen they've done a pretty great job with it.

I'm not sure how involved Russ Andersson is with it anymore but his old tutorials and isms in the manual are still great.

If it's just a single shot that's giving you trouble it might be worth just exporting the undistorted sequence, working with that in AE and redistorting it in all in sytheyes.

Ah, getting distortion data into after effects has been something I've always had trouble with so I'm not sure how helpful I'll be with this one.

I've generally tried to use STmaps generated in Sytheyes and RE:MAP in AE but ended up with mixed results. Page 221 in the manual has more info.

I might qualify. I use it a ton for work in pretty unusual contexts.

Excited to see how it's coming along!

As a fellow generalist, I really feel this. I don't stack up against any of the super talented folks that have there thing which has always bothered me and I'd find myself getting super frustrated.

I eventually got a job in forensic viz which wasn't even on my radar but has been a super good fit.

Getting a few more things put together.

Over the last few days I've been rather busy with my day job but found some time to get a decent looking particle system working and partly integrated with the fuel system. Now there is visible flame when the fire is burning!

Next goal is to add visual feedback for the burn rate and basic art.

Ended up working on some SFX and music during my lunch break today and that turned out better than expected. I think I'm going to stick with messy and organic guitar for the background music. It's still probably a little out of scope but if I don't overthink it too much maybe I can fit it in.

Got the additional fuel types working and started looking around for sfx. It's probably time to start working on some of the art so there's more to look at than just a bunch of numbers in the console.

Next goal, set up a basic flame system!

good blog. Might be best blog.

Last post meant to say that logs CAN be added to the fire. 🔥

I also managed to get my burn rate adjustments to work. Now adding a large log will slow down the burn rate temporarily before normalizing.

Next goal is to add smaller fuel that increases the burn rate!

Logs can not be added to the fire and then now burn! Each log burns independently which is nice and I'm able to get the total amount of fuel which will hopefully allow me to alter the visuals based on the size of the fire.

Next goal is to adjust the burn rate based on fuel size/type.
