Just finished three days of judging at the California State Fair: The bread show, dehydrated show, King Arthur Flour Scone Derby, jelly show, soft spreads and fruit show, pickle show, and sauces and salsas show. Whew!

Here’s a tip from my Bohemian (Czech) grandma: When making apple pie, slice the apples, then chop them. They fit better in the pie and are easier to put on a fork

Heads up - hours are changing at the California State Fair 2025. The gates will open at 4pm Monday through Thursday. On Fri/Sat/Sun the gates will open at 10am.
