Today is the 110th anniversary of the execution of British nurse Edith Cavell by a German firing squad during WWI. She was born in the village of Swardeston, Norfolk in December 1865, the daughter of the parish priest, and her name appears on the village war memorial.

She's a brilliant singer and songwriter - saw her just 6 miles away in Wymondham Abbey, where her parents got married (as did I). And she has the same initials as Karine Polwart!
