While I'm thinking about it, you might want to check out Dracula Daily. It's a mailing list that sends you entries from the book on the calendar dates they take place. It was written in 1898 or so, so there are some problematic elements, but it's a great book.

I've found it's easier for me to focus on fanfic at first, so, if you're interested in that sort of thing, it can make it easier to practice with longer fics and then mix in some books.

I'm an illustrator with a graphic and interior design background, so I love helping with this stuff. I think it looks good in games that do that. It can really make a game pop and sell the vibe an area should have.

I think the mauve is a good choice. It looks like the aesthetic will be pretty greenish in the game play, so a complementary color gives some nice contrast. The more neutralized tone is also a complement without looking Christmasy.
