It's the last class day before Winter break. It's nice to see the smiles of those eager for a break from school. I am also very aware that two weeks without the routines and services provided at school will be incredibly difficult for some. Wishing all a safe and gentle Winter break.

Four teaching days left before Winter break. Students are working on their very first formal essay ever. One sweet soul just asked if he could use the quote "the money never sleeps, keep grindin'". Another asked if they could use Tik Tok as a reference. I have work to do.

Students are making verbal wagers on the chance of a snow day tomorrow. A combination of websites and superstitions provide the arguments for and against. I am actually impressed by their persuasion skills - and the fact that flushing ice cubes is the preferred practice.

New artwork from me.

13 years ago, I moved to a house nestled in the woods away from city lights. This piece is a celebration of the nights I’ve spent looking up through the treetops at the stars and how fortunate we are to live in a province with dark skies never far from our doorsteps.

one year since the passing of my mother. The void is large. Some things do not get "better with time". Some things will forever remain a gaping wound of loss.

Reading The Giver aloud with my students takes on a different meaning these days. Watching those "lightbulb" moments occur gives me hope.
