If you can't see the clear religious parallels, it's just because you lack Thiel's scalpel-sharp media analysis.

Imbuing your opponent with the spiritual power of a suffering saint is a choice.

These MAGA influencers sure seem desperate for their audiences to drop this Epstein fiasco. Worried about losing that cushy gig? Venal. Corrupt. Cynical. Empty.

But even if you reduce it to material self-interest, this is why you never hitch your wagon to life-wrecking idiots like Trump.

Remarkable that people still hold onto this tribalistic fantasy when establishment Dems are on TV every day all but openly plotting to ratfuck their mayoral candidate who actually wants to make people's lives better. That is, when they aren't bowing down to fascists or running cover for genocide.

Class traitors fueled by the coping and seething of the moneyed interests have historically been a good thing for the Democratic Party.

"They are unanimous in their hatred for me, and I welcome their hatred."

Don't stick your heads in the sand, people! It's not good for your brain. You're just being a silly little guy.

This is why I love history. It is a comfort as much as a source of guidance.

If nothing else, the trials of today help me better understand and empathize with the people of yesterday, and this too is a gift.

Last day of the season for me unless I decide to go up Sunday (probably not). Not a bad time riding the slush! And who can say no to those views?

So long until November.

Exciting things happening in the world of semen analysis.

If you've never seen a truly massive protest, it's quite the experience. This was my view from the DC Women's March in 2017.

Unfortunately, the next thing is discovering whether suffering and spiritual elevation are truly linked.

After a false start in 2024, I'm loving Rise of the Ronin. Nioh's combat and progression/itemization in an open world scratches a very specific itch for me.

And how can I not love going on little anime adventures with Cdre. Matthew Perry (somewhat sprier than his historical counterpart, I suspect)?

I feel like we should be learning a few more lessons from arguably the most successful politician in American history, but what do I know?

Finished Wolf Hall. What a magnificent series. While my historical interpretation of Thomas Cromwell differs, this is so beautifully written and acted that I can't help but love it.

A lean 12-episode series that demands your attention and asserts its relevance for modern politics. It's a 10/10.

Stanley Kubrick's 2001 is an optimistic movie in many respects, but never more so than when it assumes a futuristic society would be willing to read this much.

Shit would be floating everywhere.

In my day we got insane paranoid ranting and weirdly solid art in our Chick Tracts. And that's the way we liked it!

Legolas with a masterclass in turning down your friends politely.

Next time my friends propose something I don't want to do, I'll tell them I'll consider it when a day of peace and freedom comes again.

Kenzo Tenma in Naoki Urasawa's Monster. Principled, kind, and brilliant. A man who will always help people in need and believes unswervingly in universal human equality. It's all the more narratively rich that those admirable traits set Monster's harrowing story in motion.

Holy hell, I love Avowed! Pure RPG joy.

Typically sturdy writing from Obsidian, and the best first-person melee combat since Cyberpunk 2077. With this first game establishing the core systems, an expanded sequel could elevate this formula into greatness.

Jason Schreier is right on with this take.

Maybe the starkest "this guy is half a decade older than me" moment I've ever experienced. He looks like Roy Cohn four months before retiring to a well-deserved grave.

Monster is one of the best thrillers ever written, anime or otherwise, and every genre fan should check it out. I just finished rewatching it with my girlfriend, and I see new things every time.

Post an anime that you don't talk about a lot but really enjoy and think more people should watch

I've avoided the Terrifier movies until now. Just don't enjoy horror that dwells on protracted suffering unless it's for a damn good reason.

Looks like it was the right call, because I doubt an artist this gutless has anything to say.
February 4, 2025 at 5:29 PM
Reason #572 I love my girlfriend: She's watching the Red Cliff movies with me. They're my favorite John Woo movies and a spectacular retelling of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If you haven't seen 'em, you gotta watch 'em.

Bittersweet to use my David Lynch Happy Birthday image now, but I think he would approve. Happy birthday!
