⚠️ The Warm Homes Plan must plug this gap

The government must urgently set out how ECO will be replaced in the Warm Homes Plan, before jobs are lost due to uncertainty & homes are left cold, damp and hard to heat. It also needs a clear roadmap for achieving both climate & fuel poverty targets.

💵 Less money for fuel poor

Without ECO, the UK is left without a large scale fuel poverty scheme. While £1.5bn is promised under the Warm Homes Plan, it’s a downgrade on the £6.4bn ECO would have spent in the same period. For households this scheme would have supported, this is a huge loss.

👔 Job losses

ECO supports thousands of jobs across Britain, particularly in Scotland. This includes retrofit experts and installers who are vital to ensuring everyone lives in a warmer, safer home. This move will cost jobs and could undermine the UK’s ambitions to improve cold, drafty homes.

Part of it is we rely on the national media, and to quote "This feels partly like a sidelining of Wales in the national agenda, but also something more than that: a kind of disaster ennui."
But we do need to be careful not to replicate either the ennui or sidelining Wales (or Cumbria, Cornwall...)
