Ironically, I guess, the people Trump wants to let in as "refugees" would tend to bid up house prices. -You know South African white racists. -Former diamond mine owners who used slave labor...

Also, people who committed immigration fraud, such as Elon Musk and Melania.

Apropos of no particular food, I'm wondering if food that naver made it past the test-marketing phase is included here.

I grew up in a test-market city, and products would appear, at very low prices - to encourage people to try them, and then (almost always) disappear. -Never had wide distribution

My VMS systems have been doing live clone backups automatically for about 40 years without a problem. Destination drives are selected via modulo on days since Gregorain calendar origin date. [VMS didn't have a Y2K problem...]

I gave up. And, to change the ID, you have to modify the boot files (because the references use the IDs), and something appears to be cached, so you have to reboot. [I asked about that in response to a description and got crickets.]

Old versions of Ghost allow live cloning, but it stopped working after WNT.

I started writing code to do live clones of Linux, but there are so many design flaws (e.g., if you clone a disk, it gets the same "unique ID" as the original, so, if you mount both (virtual/logical disks ala RedHat), that

the DEC hardware allows you to assign drive numbers (big disks) or use the position of the disk (SCSI) to assign numbers. And, they've used "SYS$DISK"-like references for decades, so you don't have to boot off of disk "C". [Windows started fixing that so late that there's still a LOT of software..

Do people who propose these PC-ish backups consider what it would take to recover from a loss? I prefer the built-in VMS backup feature that allows the system disk to be cloned live. So, the backups of all disks can just be plugged in in case of failure, and you're back in business. And...

Most US pro teams are owned by some rich right-wing white male. They blackmail cities to give them, say, a new stadium. They move them at will (often part of the blackmail), so we end up with teams whose names have nothing to do with the city. [Utah? Jazz????] The Green Bay Packers are the only

There's a Calvin Trillin essay ("My Team"; July 6, 1986) that posits that he was never considered for president of a major educational institution because he doesn't have a team.

[The essay is in the book "If You Can't Say Something NIce" and, probably, others.]
