In 1936, excavation workers found av Viking era toolbox in the marsh Mästermyr on the Swedish island Gotland. Due to conditions in the marsh, it was well preserved and contained a variety of tools, giving a glimpse of the skills of a late Iron age crafts man.

In the summer of 1993, the Museum of Sigtuna excavated its garden, where a medieval church was located. They found the remains of an unidentified bishop and his crook, about 45 years old and believed to have lived in the 12th century. His forearms and lower body are missing.
