Had a very wargames-y Sunday, heading to the "Joy of Six" show at Sheffield Hallam university.

I couldn't resist asking the Cold War Gone Hot gamers about their views on battlefield nuclear weapons...

Xi may have canned the PLA Strategic Support Force, but they lived on in our game of Littoral Commander (set c. 2040) last night.

An unhappy topic - total disagreement how to tackle nuke issues amid growing arsenals and "emerging" tech.

However, a happy moment to finally hold hard copies of the last project's book - co-written with friends.

Please DON'T BUY OUR BOOK. Read it free here: www.taylorfrancis.com/books/978103...

Somehow accidentally timed it perfectly so that "Here Comes the Sun King" started playing as my train pulled into Paris.

Not sure this was the meaning Lennon and McCartney intended

You may think you are fancy with your "two-peer deterrence challenge" but meanwhile I'm on another level wondering if the US isn't using enough classic hip hop to support STRATCOM.

Officially starting Ritual Deterrence fieldwork in Taiwan! Starting with the guard ceremony at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.

A black swan event occurred as two co-authors convened... at the Black Swan Inn.

Celebrating a little over a year since me and @bleddb.bsky.social ruffled some feathers with our critique of AI battlefield advisors. Thanks to everyone that engaged w/ us since, it's been v. rewarding!

It was a privilege to have Aurelius Jiang visit us in the department to provide us with a Taiwanese tea ceremony.

He totally spoiled us with unbelievably delicious tea. Many many thanks to Aurelius and Lily for organising!

Did nukes mean major war was "off the table"? No, we have archival evidence of war plans. This 1970 plan developed from an original invasion concept from the 1950s. Rather than being "unthinkable" this kind of data shows some elites were very much still thinking about the specifics of nuclear use
