Currently being very confused by metaphors in computing, the objectives of ML, the discourse around AI, and the general impedance missmatch between meaning and maths.

"So, for at least the next few years, this definition should provide a good outline of what constitutes artificial intelligence, and it avoids the philosophical issues that dominate attempts to define the meaning of either artificial or intelligence."

Still valid I think... 🧪

May I present: "Casual Guinea Pig"

Is definitly much more relaxed in his approach to inference.

I must admit, I could not resist: "Causal Guiniea-Pig"

Though I sadly have to announce that midjourney does not seem to be able to differenciate between causal and casual inference. I was hoping more of a "the dude" vibe from the second....might have to explicitly prompt that one.

Cheers loudly (at least in my head) after @lsmueller.bsky.social calls for an end to calling everything "The AI", instead using more descriptive and concrete labels.

I do like the Tintin mashup of this meme.

And then I remember that I still need to confront my childhood reading of many comics with their use of disturbing polictical and social memetic content...

But, to quote Hammy, I like the cookie...

I agree though, from a junior (role) to even more junior standpoint. There is always someone that can use our help to orient themselves in the weird part of the world that we have already experience in. So "position able to mentor" can be quite early...

Args, realized too late that, in my latex version, I did not change the the "larger" into an equality, and I should also consider the absolute value (or magnitude if vector), resulting in the below...

there is no way to sneakily change an image in bluesky so I do not look (realistically) foolish?

Another fun thought: These efforts were performed in a world that is, in some sense, grounded on Newtons laws of motion, using mathematical tools built to cope with this world and the implications of said laws.

Is this the history of science version of 8-bit deconstructions of computer games?
September 6, 2023 at 11:16 AM
though, the actual formulation was in a sense even weirder, as in

delta of speed = 0 is implied by not ((sum of absolute values of acting forces) > 0)

(is "implied by" a valid operator and actually represented by \Leftarrow? My confusion keeps growing....)
September 6, 2023 at 8:49 AM
How complex this law actually is, just became clear after I tried write an approximation using boolean operators...the closest I could come up with was

not((sum of absolute values of acting forces) > 0) implies not(delta of speed > 0)

Which is, like other logical notations, not helpfull but true.

Is it weird that I really enjoyed looking through a virtual card catalog at the US copyright office, to look for the registration of the book?
(It was way to easy and not a challenge at all, so I guess good job developers? ;-)

The registration number is A747879

Reskeet with a meme that lets us all get to know you a little better
August 17, 2023 at 7:25 AM
I created a little test feed that takes all posts by people on a list, and then displays all posts that contain "#lthe". The list used is a repurposed "Mute List" as seems to be standard, It seems to work, though I did not dare publish it :-)

One of my current sources of confusion is the whole question of "How to frame the concept of AI?" that reduces the inpact of the memetic baggage it is associated with. This is my current approach (read on, for a bit of the reasoning behind it) and I would be really appreciate comments
