I would rather than 12 actual best teams make it vs giving participation slots to teams who play borderline division II schedules. In your world ND should just go join the American and beat everyone by multiple scores every year so they can make the playoffs and be well rested.

That ultimately doesn’t mean shit though. ND plays basically a mix of an ACC/Big 10 schedule as it is and typically would be at or near the top of the ACC. Tulane played one ranked opponent in the regular season and lost 45-10 to Ole Miss. ND lost by a combined 4 points to two playoff teams.

Their conferences are too weak for that to be a determining factor. By every metric ND deserves to be in there over them, and Bama looked like a division II opponent against Georgia. All three teams will be in such lopsided losses in the first round.

This is a war crime. Not the administration’s first, but still.
