It feels like we’re too focused on being technically correct with the term indie. E33 is technically independent as it didn’t have a AAA publisher. But is it really in the same category as Blue Prince, a game made by a handful of people working with basic tools and little funding?

I think all games are art because even bad art is still art. An amateur’s doodle is no less art than the Mona Lisa. A corporate blockbuster is no less art than a passionate indie film. Candy Crush is no less art than Elden Ring. Even if one has more to offer than the other, they’re both still art.
