The last point of interest for the day was Céide Fields, "a fascinating system of field walls, enclosures and monuments, created over 5,000 years ago in the Neolithic period". After spending time in the Visitors Center we spent about 30 min walking the fields.

Before lunch we were able to visit nearby Rathfranpark Wedge Tomb and then Downpatrick Head to view the sandstone pillar of Dún Briste. Stopped in Ballycastle for a nice lunch (cream of butternut squash soup & brown bread) at June's Cafe.

First stop was Rathfran Abbey/Friary founded for the Dominican Order in c. 1274. Although we couldn't get close to it we were able to view Summerhill House ruin from the Abbey & also from spot on the road leading back to the R314.

FWIW The information panel near the cross includes this: “This scene is thought to refer to the introduction of new European reforms within the Irish Church in the 12th century.” ?

hope you kept some good memories from your ramblings. the first time we tried to find Cloich Chionnaola [Cloghaneely] we drove 4.5 miles in 44 minutes trying to find it because coordinates we had were bad and locals couldn't help. We still talk about the "Rock on Drum Tower".

I can definitely recommend staying and eating at Waterfront House & Restaurant in Inishcrone/Enniscrone. The wife said that the fish and chips are the best she's had in Ireland. We've eaten a lot of fish and chips in the 47 years that we've been coming to Ireland.

To be in a good position to start @tuatha.ie's Céide Coast itinerary the next day we spent our second night in Inishcrone, Co. Sligo. On the way from Roscommon we spent time at the National Famine Museum at Strokestown, Boyle Abbey and Roslee/Easkey Castle.

Our first night in Ireland was spent in Roscommon so that we could see the castle. Watching the @tuatha.ie Talk with Tadhg O’Keeffe provided the motivation. We spent the night next to Roscommon Friary so we spent some time there before driving to the castle.

There are also 35 itineraries (and more added regularly) which are useful when wanting suggestions for specific geographic areas. We referenced 9 itineraries for our last trip.
