Now retired from politics and PR, and a bit restless. Trying to be the UK’s fastest pensioner over 400m, and now finally running it in fewer seconds than years of age.
The 2025 Norwegian black comedy/horror film The Ugly Stepsister (on Shudder) is so much better than I expected. One moment I was marvelling at the cinematography; the next I was hiding my eyes behind a cushion.

The Korean TV series Death’s Game is one of the most innovative things I’ve seen in a while, and the acting is fabulous. The last episode is extraordinary.

This still makes me hoot with laughter.

Oh, this Danish film was a very pleasant surprise. Available on the Channel 4 app for a few more days.

The Spanish horror film Piggy (2022) was tonight’s random pick from Film 4. A great choice!

Remember when most of the media were baying for the head of Rachel Reeves after the pound fell in value against the dollar in January?

I think we’ve finally seen the back of winter.

Nice one, Plymouth Council.

My Tory candidate for the forthcoming county council election manages to completely avoid mentioning his party on his leaflet. Even in the ‘promoted’ small print, which is probably illegal.

What abysmal figures. And, sure enough, almost every time I have to return to Exeter from Bristol, I end up in the nearby pub, filling the delay. Today is no different.

A month ago, most of the media were baying for the chancellor’s blood as the pound fell against the dollar. Funnily enough, not hearing a peep about the continued revival since then.

I remember during the credit crunch of 2008 how the news channels daily reported the falling FTSE100 as an example of government in crisis - it was obsessive.
But not a peep about the current record-breaking heights of the FTSE100 so far this year.

Extraordinary.

Ooh, let me guess. Is it Photoshop, by any chance?

A slightly decadent way to spend a Friday afternoon - watching the glorious Now Voyager.

I have no idea why Motherland passed me by so comprehensively in 2016, but at the fag end of 2024 I’m finding it hilarious.

I don’t think I’ve ever been metaphorically punched so hard by a film as I just have been in the last 15 minutes of All of Us Strangers. Good grief, I’m a mess.

Only two episodes so far, but I’m warming to Judge Marianne, the new series on C4’s Walter Presents. The characterisation and humour are more important than the crimes solved.

Seems I’m pretty late to this party - what’s new? - but I’m here now. A bit like…
