But Discord is still (mostly) about instant communication. There’s something lost in how forums were essentially interest based email boards, i.e. you may not see a response for a day or more. Now everyone / everything is ultra online. The internet felt slower.

Early to mid 2000s. I miss spaces that didn’t ~feel~ monetized. Forums felt like a community. Maybe I was too naive to notice the monetization around me or it was happening at a less noticeable scale. Small discord communities are probably the closest thing to that old feeling I’ve found.

The problem is this data collection, and its impact on insurance cost, was hidden from consumers. You consented to using an app to transmit data to your insurance provider. Thats wildly different than what’s happening in this article.
