Classicist and Lawyer. Staunchly anti-Brexit. All for soothing anger where I can. Euripides, Medea 1265/6: “τί σοι φρενοβαρὴς / χόλος προσπίτνει . ...;".
Also .. aviation fuel is not subject to fuel duty or VAT - a bizarre anomaly noting (at least I used to believe this was the case) the government’s “commitment” to tackle climate change. Easier, I guess, to tax EVs and raise basic rate income tax than take on fossil burning corporates.

“…. And die” … about as dire as it gets. A moral void.

Frewin wasn’t like this in my day (late 80s/early 90s)!!

The question then - with the issue diagnosed - is what is Labour going to do about the deal. If it is just tinker with it for narrow political objectives, voters will rightly look elsewhere.

There’s a difference between the parties on this issue as the LD signalled in its manifesto that it was prepared to move to single market reaccession - as amplified recently.

Labour’s constant refrain “voters on the doorstep want us to focus on other priorities” - and this from the so called staunchest Remainers in the Johnson era - cost them my vote some time back. I look elsewhere for intelligence and public service.

Looking forward to rewatching so much of this, not least Martha Nussbsum on Aristotle. There seems to be nothing (no new production) like this now on television, which is sad, but I am grateful the series is being repeated.

Starmer has indeed been woeful on Brexit. He knows deep down it’s a disaster, but yes .. he prefers to increase taxes and via employer NICs increases etc. inflation. My vote will be going elsewhere.

I listened to the episode this morning. Really enjoyable. For me the probable (albeit very far off!) prospect of heat death alone puts a question mark on the traditional Christian doctrine of a life sustaining/giving deity. Everything comes to an end in a void!

When will the toxic folly of Brexit be reversed? It has clearly done nothing but damage the UK substantially - in terms of cost and lost opportunity.
