yeah that definitely makes sense, but i think the american 'tough it out attitude' has more to do with american exceptionalism rather than gun rights being enshrined in legislation: i think the french just aren't as submissive to their government as the nationalistic american populus is.

yeah, that makes sense. law enforcement as a system does need to be rebuilt with abuse of power and violence in mind: and i think trying to enact institutional changes on top of the current system to prevent violence isn't a sustainable long-term solution.

considering the bill to disallow trans people from using guns proposed last year, i doubt that law enforcement would hesitate to shoot someone even knowing they didn't have a way to fight back, since not conforming is seen as transgressive in and of itself. guns or no guns, theyll still hunt us(2/2)

i think youre right that some of the trigger-happiness comes from the proliferation of guns, but i think it comes more from the perceived danger of minorities. a white man open-carrying is looked upon as normal; a minority with a gun in their car is seen as transgressive. (1/2)

it's important to remember the full text of the second amendment: weapons are an incredibly important tool for resisting fascistic administrations. even people who believe we need stricter regulations on guns (myself included) know that guns are an important way to protect yourself from the gov.
