Read a post where an #sre discovered a recent incident had the same root cause as an earlier incident. Someone chimed in that they didn't have the same root cause: the root cause of the second incident was not prioritizing the fix from the first incident. #postmortem items need due dates!

I don't post so often, these days, but this made my day.

Versioned rollback is finally a thing in k8s.

Kubernetes gets minor version rollback | Google Cloud Blog
In the event of an error when upgrading a Kubernetes cluster, a new minor version rollback feature lets you revert to a known-good state.

My son and I enjoyed reading the first two books together. He leaves for college next year, I’ll have to send him a copy while he’s there.
The outline for my third novel, Fighter, is done.

33 chapters have already been written, 17 chapters yet to be started, 13 chapters are in progress.

I've been playing with Java over the past week. After years of semi-colonless languages, it feels a little strange, but there are parts of it I am really enjoying. Having a solid IDE which reminds me of features which I've forgotten--or which have been introduced between Java 8 and now--is nice.

Watching The Blob (1988) with my son (horror movies every Thursday in October). There are some surprisingly good effects in this for a late 80s film.

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

One of my favorite ways to learn a new framework is to follow a tutorial for another language or version and try to make it work. When I was learning Django 2.x, I followed a tutorial for 1.x and became VERY familiar with the docs. Now, I’m following a C# microservices course, but writing it in Go.

Migrated my @jellyfin.bsky.social server from a @proxmox.bsky.social VM to a physical server with a GPU for transcoding. Performance is way better, but that probably has to do with the bonded 10gig interfaces. 🤣

Not really a fan of the new iOS. I can’t imagine what it’s like for people with poor vision.

Quickly burned through the Grafana Cloud free tier, so decided to stand up my own LGTM stack. Ended up trying out VictoriaMetrics and VictoriaLogs instead of Mimir and Loki. Not quite as good of an integration with Grafana, but amazing performance which is killer for a scrappy side project.

Anyone in the #k8s world using Grafana Tanka? I feel like there is an appetite for something in between kustomize and Helm and it _looks_ like Tanka exists in that space.

Discovered that @netflix.com doesn't work if you're using DisplayLink on a Mac, since it looks like screen sharing. 😞

Since DisplayLink is required for my dock to work, it looks like I may be moving on from Netflix.

Heading to Cambridge and plan to visit one of Tolkien’s favorite pubs. I’m realizing I don’t have physical copies of the Lord of the Rings, so am hoping to find a good set while there.

One of my favorite practices in MR review is emoji-based.

- When someone requests review in Slack, react with 👀 once you start looking at it.
- If you find something needing changes or discussion, react with 💭.
- When you approve it, react with ✅.

And, of course, thank the reviewer with a :ty:
