Misanthropic optimist.

Here to discuss film-making, test cricket, law and mediation.

And other stuff sometimes.
Our country created a welfare state in the post-war settlement which was worthy of national pride.

It was substantially dismantled by the regressive privatisations of the 80s and then the loathsome austerity of the 10s.

Perhaps this is what the veteran is referencing?

The Stokes/McCullum era has been characterised by expansive batting and imaginative leadership, supported by well-tuned but conservative bowling.

Josh Tongue brings some real flair and adventure in the bowling.

Something of the knock-em-over Frank Tyson/Simon Jones spirit.

Good luck to him!

There's been something very odd and unfair about the way that Jacob Bethell has been talked up as though he can just slot straight in, strap on the pads and succeed.

(Lots of differences, but memories of Mark Lathwell in 1993).

100% agree.

Critics of the current set-up should be forced Clockwork Orange style to watch a continuous loop of Emburey bowling to Tavare.

The English cricket team over the last 3 years has shown numerous admirable qualities from which everyone can learn important lessons about life.

1. A clear philosophy based on positivity.
2. Capable of learning and adapting.
3. A commitment to excellence without compromising enjoyment.
