Anyway point is J Edgar Hoover was a total piece of shit, but he occassionally actually did the right thing, which I very begrudgingly have to admit.

At the Federal level, everybody know goddamn well Japanese internment was unnecessary and there wasn't a serious threat. FDR certainly knew it, and he wwnt and did it anyway. It's the most infuriating thing possible. I also hate having to acknowledge that thug J Edgar Hoover being on the right side.

The Army report constantly openly contradicts itself, and I was able to wrote a whole chapter in grad school tearing it apart without needing to cite external sources, because it constantly disproves its own arguments.
February 15, 2026 at 4:12 PM
The thing is everybody in the room knew Japanese-Americans weren't a threat. The Army report even says "We have no evidence of any sabatoge or espionage risk.", which they follow up with "We interpret that as being evidence of a plot." The FBI even told FDR point blank there wasn't a risk.

J Edgar Hoover also opposed Japanese Internment and didn't want the FBI involved in the process, because interning US citizens went too far for him. Which, tangentially, I had to read the US Army's wartime report on internment. Worst document I've ever read.

Eh, Prussia probably beats the Union if it's on German soil.

Not to defend ICE Fascists, but suppressors are becoming standard in a lot of places. Even suppressed guns are still incredibly loud and not stealthy at all, but suppressors do reduce hearing damage and lower chances of overpenetration.

That said, abolish ICE.

After everything we've done to Iran, it's likely we can't really do anything to help. We are not wanted.
January 18, 2026 at 7:21 PM
On the other hand, the Iranian pwople have very good reasons not to like Americans. Getting these protests tarred as American backed could be a quick way to them failing, and any sort of overt assistance from Trump guarantees failure. Americans are probably best staying out of this.

I mean there's also absolutely gigantic insurance costs for daycares.
January 16, 2026 at 8:16 AM
Insurance. Insurance costs are absolutely through the roof.

I guess that's true enough, though I could argue the food I grew up eating in California was likewise mostly pretty bad and not really representative of how good American cuisine is.
January 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM
I like it
January 6, 2026 at 6:58 PM
British food has never been bad. Traditional British cuisine slaps, and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't.

I suppose my WWI hot take that historians probably largely agree with is that the United States was honest in its reasons for entering the war, did not go to war for ulterior motives, and was justified in entering the fighting when it did.

Most British subjects lived outside the British Isles, had no right to vote, and had no meaningful democratic representation, with an economy solely designed to suck their resources away. Same with France.

Then again, Germany was doing a genocide in one of its colonies right before the war.
January 6, 2026 at 7:20 AM
On the one hand, I agree. Germany was a military dictatorship who's plans for post-war Europe werd demonstrably worse than those of the Allies, and it is good Germany lost. I also agree Britain was right to defend Belgium. I just always feel queasy lauding Britain and France as democracies.

No, I'm saying you better have an ironclad contingency plan in place before you do it. Know what your response is if she won't cooperate.
December 20, 2025 at 12:21 AM
What if they do that, and due to very reasonable fear of reprisals, she lies on the stand and says it never happened?
December 20, 2025 at 12:12 AM
Where does that put me, a trans woman in my 30s who is into both 5e and OSR for different reasons?
December 18, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Do this, and I will make absoluteley sure to support your primary challengers.
December 12, 2025 at 8:47 PM
I feel like that's Dungeon Crawl Classics (or OSR in general) moreso than Daggerheart.
December 2, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Problem is, SCOTUS says the President has total immunity for their actions, so it's hard to punt responsibility.
December 1, 2025 at 8:47 PM
Where is Daggerheart in this analogy?
